Shipping a Puppy through PetSafe

Information on Shipping a Puppy

All of our puppies are shipped using PetSafe through United Airlines. PetSafe provides pressurized cabins with climate control systems, all animals are flown in a special compartment for pets, they are not stored with luggage. Due to policy changes, PetSafe does NOT ship bulldogs anymore. We are still looking in to airlines that do still accept bulldogs.

How does air shipping work?
When you purchase your puppy through the breeder, we take your puppy to our licensed veterinarian within 10 days of travel departure to receive a health certificate (United Airlines Requirement). All puppies flying will need a health certificate and age appropriate vaccination record to aboard the plane, the airlines will ask for this documentation.
Our veterinarian will do a complete health exam on your puppy, which includes a fecal test to check if the puppy is free from any worms or parasites, if the puppy is found with worms or any type of parasite the breeder will need to treat it for a couple of days so you can receive your puppy safe and sound. The puppy is also checked for heart murmurs and verifies that the puppy has received all age appropriate vaccinations. After the puppy is checked then he/she will be issued a health certificate stating that your puppy is in perfect health and a hard copy of the certificate so we can ship him/her out.
In the case that our veterinarian finds that the puppy needs additional treatment before he/she can be shipped, the buyer will be notified, we want to make sure that you receive a healthy puppy so please be patient and we hope you understand if this occurs; we only want what is best for our puppies and clients. We do not want for you to receive a sick puppy.

How long will it be before shipping a puppy?
Our puppies must be at least 8 weeks of age or older, they need to have age appropriate vaccinations to reduce the risk of contracting airborne viruses. If the puppy is purchased after 8 weeks of age, I can usually ship the puppy within a few days of purchase.

What are the shipping requirements?
A dog must be at least 8 weeks old for shipping and must be examined by and receive a health certificate from a veterinarian within 10 days of the date of shipping. Additionally, some states and foreign countries require a rabies vaccine certificate. An airline approved crate (we usually use Petmate Sky Kennels, 32”L X 22.5”W X 24”H - Great Dane) that has enough room for the dog to stand and turn around will be required for shipping. Kennel needs to have 2 food/water dishes which can be filled from the outside enclosure. 1 collar and 1 leash are the only items permitted other than food for the animal. The collar and leash must be secured outside of the kennel. Also in the interior of the kennel must have absorbent material provided in case of accidents during shipment. Please do not be alarmed if and when you pick up your puppy he/she has had an accident during their flight. These things can obviously happen during nervousness or because of the length of the flight. The kennel must also have names, addresses and telephone numbers of the customers at origin and destination as well as the name of the puppy in the kennel listed at the top of the kennel.

What are shipping costs?

Shipping costs (carrier, food bowls and airline ticket) will usually run anywhere from $400 USD to $450 USD. If the price can be quoted to a lower price we will let you know.

What can we include in pet’s kennel?
Toys or medications of any kind are not permitted in or on the roof of pet kennels. Items that can be securely attached to the outside of your pet's kennel include: less than one pound of food, one leash and one collar. Place some type of absorbent material on the bottom of the kennel (towel, blanket, shredded black-and-white printed newspaper, etc.). The kennel must also have two dishes (one for food and one for water) attached to the inside of the kennel, which must also be accessible from outside of the kennel so they can be filled without opening the kennel door.

How do we prepare for the puppy’s trip?
One of the most important things we do is crate train prior to the puppy’s departure. We try to reduce the level of stress as much as possible, also we introduce them to the collar and leash prior to departure.
